Prep siding before paint job?

1971 powder coat aluminum siding has never been touched.I want to have it painted but have conflicting opinions on the preparation. One suggests sealing gaps and brush wash. Another wants to power wash only. Visible gaps appear to be 1/4 to 3/4 inches in spots. Will power wash force H2O behind it and cause other problems? Claims the Tyvek will prevent this(40 year old Tyvek?)Prep siding before paint job?
The gaps are needed for expansion and contraction in heat and cold. Sealing these can cause buckling. Rain probably has gotten in these gaps anyway. Power wash ( not too much velocity or you can damage siding) then spray paint.
