I just wanted to add.....when I insisted that I just wanted a new paint job on the truck or I wanted a truck without the scratches, the dealership managaer said they are not allowed to swipe out cars and that in order to get a new paint job Chrysler would have to approve it, which is rare. The paint job is also I guess you could say wavey looking when you look at it from an angle....but I can see that the scratches the shine rainbow colors when the sun hits them...is under the clear coat.....So I guess my questions is.....is there anything they can do other than repaint the truck....and if not....who do I go to, to insist on another truck that looks brand new? Also, they said the truck I would be getting would have the ';new black color'; black with silver metallic speckles in it....well this one is just jet black....I hear that all the 2006 dodges are black with silver metallic.....is it possible that when the plant painted this one they just screwed up all together? Thanks everyone!!!!Regarding my ';orange peel'; paint job....so they said?
If I were you I would contact Chrysler directly myself forget the dealer.Regarding my ';orange peel'; paint job....so they said?
SOUNDS LIKE YOU GOT A HAIL DAMAGED, REPAINTED VEHICLE.
I agree with above. Nothing, NOTHING beats that factory paint job.
Do whatever you can to keep that original paint.
If you get the truck repainted, make sure that Chyrsler will warranty the work. Otherwise 3 years from now, you will be able to tell the parts that were painted over.
If you repaint the truck it will look worse and be worth less. Orange peel can be polished out. It just means there's plenty of paint there to polish.
as far as the orange peel goes all factory paint jobs have it....you can get rid of the orange peel by water sanding with 2000 grit wet/dry sandpaper and the buffing with 3m compound and a high speed buffer...then machine glazing it with 3m machine glaze and a high speed buffer...but you would want to have a body shop do this if you have never done it before...as far as the rest of these answers they must have wanted a cheap paint job and went and got just THAT..A CHEAP PAINT JOB...if repainted correctly and the shop is left alone to do their job(not called on everyday to see if they are finished) the paint jobs are usually better than factory!!!!
Before I answer, an FYI for you. If you add comments to your original answer, it is easier for people to follow than posting additional comments in the form of a new question. Also, you lose less points.
Here's what I posted on your original question, and I don't see anything here that would make me change what I would do if I were dealing with the problem personally.
As everyone else has said, it sounds like they screwed up when buffing it, not orange peel. Their reaction indicates that they are not an honest dealership, so I would first complain directly to Chrysler. One thing I'd do as soon as you can is to take some pictures of what the paint looks like right now for documentation. You might even want to send copies in to Chrysler Corp. when you contact them. Then, if you really like Durangos I would return that one and lease one from a different dealership. If you don't have your heart set on a Durango, look around and see what else you like. If they give you any grief about trying to return the vehicle, threaten to talk to a lawyer. If they don't buy it, make good on the threat. A lawyer from your area will be most familiar with any laws on getting out of the lease contract. Also, if the TV stations in your area are anything like mine, they have people who publicly expose grievances about local businesses, so call them. At the very least, consider contacting the Better Business Bureau. Most importantly, avoid this dealership in the future. There are crooked dealerships, and there are honest dealerships. Unfortunately, you seem to have discovered the first kind. Good luck!
You should get the dealer to respond to you request in writing. Than, talk to the Dodge district manager, than to a lawyer.
