ok so people were telling me that a paint job would be maybe around 2000, but now that im calling around everyone is telling me that the price is around 3000 and up, so whats going on?Another paint job question?
How in the world can you expect them to give you a price without seeing your vehicle? They're not taking you seriously, surely you realize this.
Good Luck, ;-)Another paint job question?
Cost of living is way up. People gotta eat.
It sounds like whoever told you 2000 didn't know what they were talking about.
You get what you pay for, and in my experience $3,000 and up is much more realistic than $2,000. However there's always the cutrate shops like Scheib and Maaco if you aren't very picky about the looks or longevity.
MACCO
depending on many variables, condition of vehicle, you want the inside of doors and hood and such painted, the color of the vehicle. It really depends. Here, to get a quality paint job, heres what I have to use...
Paint @ 85 bucks a qaurt - 3 to 4 quarts.
Clear _ 140 average (cheap clear for 80 I will NOT use a cheap product)
Reducers - 60 bucks
Hardeners - 100 to 140
Urethane Primer - 100 to 150 (depends how bad car is)
various sandpapers 30 bucks
Buffing compounds if I buff it - 30 bucks.
masking tape at 3.35 a roll, ( I refuse to use a cheap product and only use 3m 233+ tape)
Masking paper - 18 bucks a log (car will be masked and when all work is done car wil be unmasked and remasked before actual painting takes place. Thats how a true professional controls his dirt and contaminant control.)
So you see, I can have 500 to 750 in materials on your car.
3 to 5 days labor for an average job anywhere from 1550 to 2500, once again, depends on how much is needed to be done. that 1550 would be a clean car, no dents, a couple scratches, color seal car and then paint. 2500 if the car had some door dings and so on. Then the price goes up from there as per work wanted and needed.
Okay here's the deal.
First of all, NO maaco. NO. They don't prep your car right, and use cheapo paint, why do you think they can offer paint jobs for as cheap as $400? come on. You get what you pay for. If you want a cheap paint job that isn't gonna last that long, have orange peel galore, and swirls %26amp; overspray everywhere, go with maaco.
Second, where are you going to get your paint job quotes?
And what kind of paint? Special paints (Pearls, metallics, etc) will be around $3,000+ for a paint job (which should include a good prep, primed, %26amp; quality layers of paint + layers of clear coat) Even if you dont have special paint, some places do the job right and take their jobs very seriously, rigorously preparing your car for paint and correcting all the imperfections before handing your car off to you, those kinds of places will charge you $3,000. They take care of everything, door jams, inner trunk area, (most even do under the hood), etc to make your car look like it came from the factory that way. Maaco? they dont care about under your hood and door jams.
It depends on what kind of paint job you really want in the end. Most places that do expensive paint jobs also have a very good warranty to go with it (often 15+years)
macco
It all depends on what you need done (jams, truck??) Don't go to macco or any other cheap place like that if you want a good paint job. Find a independent paint shop and ask around, we've never charged anyone that kind of money at my paint shop. Alot of people are trying to become millionaires off of one paint job. Email me with what your doing and I'll give you a price
um..what paint job?
Because you need to know square footage, what type of paint? Were they assuming you would do it on your own? And of course the price could differ from location to location. It's even crazy expensive when you do it yourself. Also, is your home a pain in the *** to paint? Maybe they evaluted it that way! Ok so now I see you were referring to a car. I have no flippin idea!
