Paint job $7500, is that rip off?

we recently purchased a home but we were quoted $7500 for repainting of the inside and the outside, this is in southern california. My friends thought it was outrageous and expensive, what do you guys think? I also found another person who was willing to paint for $5300, but I would have to buy the paint whereas the first person who is a professional licensed painter includes the edward dunns paint for repainting the home. Total for 6 bedroomsPaint job $7500, is that rip off?
Sounds cheap. Very cheap. I hope you're supplying the paint and that this price is for the labor. Otherwise the only one getting ripped off here is the painter. Would you paint your house for only $7500?Paint job $7500, is that rip off?
The more expensive and more professional the painter is, the better results will be given out. If you're worry of not enough money, why don't you try online survey? By doing this, you can earn some extra money easily and legally.
If it is a 6 BR house, interior %26amp; exterior, $7500 is a good price including a good quality paint. Be sure you use a licensed professional or you will regret it. And get references!
If an unlicensed guy is offering a big discount, then no, $7500 is not too much. Just like in any trade, there is more to it than what the common person believes...

Just remember, you'll get exactly what you pay for.
Go with the first one.

He will finish the job professionally.

And as a pro he shouldn't ask for any up front money either.

Never put money up front. Just on a finished job.
A six bedroom house is probably a pretty huge house, so that price might not be bad if the whole outside needs paint as well as the inside
$7500 isn't bad.

Get as many quotes as you can to compare.

if this is a large house, and labor and paint taxes ar eincluded meaning nothing else, then yes its average. but still look around mexicans work for cheaper and knwo what their doing.
I painted my house for free and it looks perfect. OF COURSE its a rip-off!
That price is not outrageous at all if their is a whole lot of prep involved. On average, you are looking at 2 to 4 dollars per square foot. Some painters are more expensive than others because they do good jobs. I know plenty of painters who do high end work and use only the best quality coatings. Remember to get details of the bid. What are the prep methods. It should be detailed. How many coats? Most paint jobs should use two coats when switching colors. Will the exterior be power washed, will it need stucco patch? Does it need to be primed? It only needs to be primed when you are doing a major color change or having bonding issues like switching from an oily or gloss surface and are switching to water based paints. If a painter has to do a lot of the things I mentioned, it will get high. Also, does the painter need to move all your furniture, or getting around the exterior of the building and is being hampered by trees and what not? All this is labor. Also, don't be fooled by name brands of paint. Thats like saying you only use the Toyota Company, but is it a Corolla or a Lexus? Dunn Edwards does offer some good products and some really bad ones as well, make sure you ask which line he is picking and look it up on their website or call the store and ask if its their top of line, or the bottom. And by the way, I know painters who charge more, but again it has to do with whats involved as far as prep and quality finish you expect. I work for a paint company that has superior coatings, not Dunn Edwards, but I do not want to be biased or use this as a forum to shoot a plug for my company without their permission.
